Trash and recycling will be collected as usual; there will be no delay due to the holiday.

UPDATE: SNOW EMERGENCY HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

VILLAGE OF CHATHAM DECLARATION OF SNOW EMERGENCY 02/08/2025. There will be NO PARKING beginning at 7:00pm, Saturday, February 8, 2025 until further notice on either side of Austerlitz Street, High Street, Maiden Lane, Kinderhook Street, Cemetery Hill Road, Library Place, Locust Street, and Woodbridge Avenue (from Hoffman Street to Church Street), as detailed in the Chatham Village Code sec.99-29: https://ecode360.com/29136160 and sec.99-62 Schedule XXV: Snow Emergency Streets: https://ecode360.com/29136237#29136237. Residents are encouraged to park in the municipal lots at Depot Square, and at the north end of Main Street.  As a reminder, year round, there is NO Parking on Village of Chatham Streets between 3am-6am: sec.99-23: https://ecode360.com/29136154. Two-hour Only Parking Laws will NOT be enforced during the Snow Emergency. Water service interruption – Church St (Route 203) ; Wednesday, 2/5/25

DPW work this morning on the Route 203 (Church St) water main may involve water service interruption for village water users along Church Street beginning at Housman Avenue and heading toward Valatie.

Ghent Water Service interruption this morning, Thursday, 1/30/25, due to repairs to the water main.

1/30/25 – Water service to Ghent may experience interruption this morning due to work on the water main.  We appreciate your patience while the DPW works to repair the main and restore service as quickly as possible.

Water Main Break in Ghent, 01/28/25. Water service will be interrupted starting NOW, beginning at the intersection of County 9, heading south on Route 66.  The DPW is working as quickly as possible and will restore service as soon as possible.

Trash and recycling collection will be delayed by a day this week.  Collection will occur on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

Water Main Break in Ghent, 01/16/25. Water service will be interrupted starting NOW, beginning at the Dairy Queen heading south.  The DPW is working as quickly as possible and will restore service as soon as possible.

The DPW will pick up Christmas trees from your curb on Mondays and Fridays through the month of January.

Refuse and recycling reminders – weight limit and stickers required

When placing refuse and recycling at the curb for weekly collection please remember the following from the Village of Chatham and County Waste agreement: “The refuse must be placed in standard plastic garbage bags having a capacity not to exceed 35 gallons and weighing not more than thirty (30) pounds, and upon which there must be affixed an official Village of Chatham garbage/refuse collection sticker.  Contractor shall not remove garbage or trash bags that do not have a Village of Chatham garbage/refuse collection sticker affixed.”  Stickers for trash bags may be purchased at Stewarts, Citgo gas station at the traffic light, or at the Village Clerk’s office.

Location: Village of Chatham, New York
The Village of Chatham is seeking a dedicated and organized individual to serve as Secretary to the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals. This is a part-time position that requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage administrative tasks efficiently.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, and other documents for the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.
  • Attend all Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings, take detailed notes, and transcribe meeting minutes.
  • Maintain accurate records of applications, decisions, and correspondence.
  • Communicate with applicants, residents, and other stakeholders regarding board schedules, procedures, and requirements.
  • Assist in the coordination of public hearings, including legal notifications and distribution of materials.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations regarding planning and zoning board operations.
  • Provide administrative support to board members as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other administrative software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with local government operations, planning, and zoning regulations is a plus.
  • Availability to attend evening meetings as required.
Compensation:
Hourly rate to be determined based on qualifications and experience.
